party ideas

The complete guide to planning a virtual holiday party your team will actually enjoy. 25+ ideas, games, formats and tips for remote, hybrid and global teams.

Why virtual holiday
parties matter

Remote and hybrid teams miss the casual moments that happen in an office: the breakroom chat, the after-work drink, the end-of-year lunch. A virtual holiday party recreates that shared moment online. When it is done well, people leave feeling more connected to their colleagues, not less.

The key is a live host. Without one, you get 40 people on mute staring at each other. With one, you get energy, laughter and real interaction. This guide covers everything you need to plan a party that works.

25+ virtual holiday
party ideas

Here are ideas grouped by style. Most can be mixed and matched into a single 60 or 90 minute session.

Game show format

Fast, competitive and great for large groups. A host runs buzzer rounds, trivia and mini-games on a shared screen. Everyone plays at once through their browser.

Social and relaxed

For smaller teams or a cozy vibe. Less competition, more conversation.

Immersive and creative

How to choose
the right format

For 10 to 50 people, a single host running trivia or a game show works perfectly. For 50 to 100, add breakout teams so everyone gets a voice. For 100+, you need multiple hosts and a structured breakout system.

If your team is spread across time zones, consider running two shorter sessions instead of one. Our time zone planner helps you find the best slot.

Keeping it inclusive

Not everyone celebrates Christmas. Use "holiday" instead of "Christmas" in your invitations. Reference Hanukkah, Diwali, Lunar New Year and New Year where relevant. Offer a holiday-neutral winter theme. Make cameras optional so people who are off camera are not singled out.

Timing your party

60 minutes is the sweet spot for most teams. It is long enough for 3 to 4 rounds of games plus an awards moment, and short enough that nobody gets Zoom fatigue. 90 minutes works for bigger celebrations with more rounds or a cocktail segment.

Platforms

Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and Webex all work. Use whichever your team already knows. We can host on your account or ours. Breakout rooms are essential for team games.

Budgeting

A 1-hour hosted virtual holiday party starts at $500. Longer parties, custom rounds, shipped kits and large groups are custom-quoted. See our pricing page for details.
